I rarely get excited about product updates. But I’m excited about this one. This update will be going live on midnight EST Friday the 13th (good omen?), but we only expect a few hours of downtime. Here’s what you can expect from this update.
- You’ll get better ways to test your tones
- You’ll get better ways to practice your listening
- And, you’ll get the freedom and flexibility of individual audio files
Read on to find out more.
Tingxie = Chinese Listening Drills
What was once known as Tingxie, is now known as Chinese Listening Practice. It’s a bit easier to remember and a lot easier to pronounce than Tingxie, too.
And it’s not just a rename. We’ve completely revamped Lingomi’s Listening Drills. Now there’s even more reason to subscribe to Lingomi.
Tone Test: now with more tones
Besides the interface and speed improvements, we’ve added the ability to test words with multiple characters. Beginners can take the basic tone test, while more advanced learners can try out the bigram (two-character) and trigram+ (three or more characters) tests. I can’t think of a better way to practice your tones.
Pinyin Drills: new and improved
This is no simple pinyin test. It now has four types of questions including tone, fill-in-the-blank, multiple choice and cloze questions. You simply have to try it out.
Individual HSK Audio Files: because you asked for it
I’m currently taking pre-orders for the Individual HSK Audio files. These high-quality audio files are perfect for adding to your Anki, SuperMemo, and Memosyne decks. Now you don’t have to force your friend/tutor to sit down and record audio files for you. They’ll be available around the end of May 2011. You can pre-order them here.
Lingomi To Go has been discontinued
Unfortunately, there wasn’t enough interest in the product to merit spending the time money to improve To Go and make it a world-class product. If you’re still looking for custom Chinese audio MP3s, you can order still order them from Lingomi by filling out this form and getting a quote.
In the next few weeks, Stats, and Custom Listening Drills, and advanced options for Tone Tests and Pinyin Drills will be coming online. We’ll let you know when they’re ready.
If you’re looking to improve your listening skills, I’m happy to recommend you try Lingomi. You can try it out for free by signing up for an account here.
